Introduction: Tyler Jester

Hello all! My name is Tyler Jester, and I am originally from West Jefferson, Ohio. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the area, West Jefferson is a small village approximately twenty minutes west of Columbus. I choose to come to Bowling Green State University over Otterbein College, which is in the Central Ohio area, mainly for two reasons; one, through my eyes, I believed BGSU had a better Sport Management program and two, the tuition cost at BGSU is a lot cheaper the Otterbein. Throughout my sports career in high school, I played many sports. I played one year of football, two years of golf, four years of baseball, and four years of basketball, which I was on the Varsity roster all four years, and started every game my sophomore through senior season. Basketball is my favorite sport. Growing up, that is the sport I found the most interesting to watch and definitely the most fun to play. My sports career has continued at BGSU at the intramural level, where I play as many different sports as I have time for. My favorite sports teams come from all over the country. Here is a list of my favorite teams:
College Sports – Notre Dame and BGSU
                NFL – Atlanta Falcons
                NBA – Los Angeles Lakers
                MLB - New York Yankees
NHL – Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets
Soccer – Columbus Crew and Manchester United

The female athlete I would pay to see is Alex Morgan. I feel she is a rising star in the sport of soccer, and she could become the new face of U.S. Women’s Soccer. I first became a fan after watching the World Cup and the Olympics, where I saw just how good of a player she really is. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for her.

For the male athlete I would pay to see, I would choose Steve Nash, point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. Ever since I started watching basketball at a young age, Nash has always been my favorite player. I love watching how he can dissect a defense and one can really tell he knows the game better than any other player out there. Hopefully he can win a NBA title in his career to go along with his two league MVP's.

  1. Tyler, I really liked how diverse your sports career has been. I think that is something you do not see too much in today’s society where people play a variety of sports. Nowadays you usually see people focusing on one or two sports. I think by having experience with those different sports it will help you tremendously in the Sports Management field. Also, I liked how you are a New York Yankees fan. I am a serious New York Yankees fan myself. I started really liking them when I first saw Derek Jeter play. He is a really good role model and plays the game very hard.

  2. Hi Tyler,

I agree with Logan that you seem to have a diversity of sport interests, not to mention sport teams that you like. Since you live close to Columbus, I wondered if you had seen many soccer games at the Stadium there. I can definitely see why you would like to see Alex Morgan. The U.S. Women's Soccer team has brought a lot of excitement to the sport, just like the 1999 team did before them. I have not seen Steve Nash play that much but when he returned to the Lakers, it was obvious that he made a difference in how they played together. I even heard Kobe say that it made a big difference to have a player like Nash orchestrating the plays.

This is a good Introduction and I look forward to reading more of your entries.

    Dr. Spencer
