Introduction : John Ruppert

Hello Everyone! My name is John Ruppert and I am from Dayton, Ohio, which is two hours straight down I-75. I am a huge sports fanatic and follow just about every sport besides hockey. My favorite NFL team is the New Orleans Saints, My favorite MLB team would have to be the Cincinnati Reds. I don't really have a favorite NBA team, I do however have a favorite player Lebron James, and my favorite college teams are the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State.

Throughout high school I played many sports, I was always busy at that. I played football, bowling, and baseball. A lot of people ask, bowling? For some reason this was my God given talent, and by far my best "sport". I was offered scholarships from the top two schools in the nation (Wichita State and Webber International) but turned them both down to come here to BGSU. I played three years of football until I detached six of my ribs from my sternum and could no longer play, and three years of Varsity baseball where I was a pitcher. Currently here at BGSU I play intramural sports and then pick up games at the Rec with a couple of guys.

The female athlete in which I would like to see compete in her sport would be Gabrielle Douglas. The reason I would like to see her compete is because her athletic ability. Some people may not realize how much strength and training goes into gymnastics and the way she was able to perform at the summer Olympics was amazing. Also what she was able to do at the Olympics was great for the sport, having young girls see what she was able to do could potentially motivate them into becoming future Olympic gold medalist as well.

The male athlete in which I would like to see compete in his sport would be Kevin Durant. The reason for this is because I have already seen Lebron James play so I would like to compare the two with each other. Also for Kevin Durant's size the things that he does on T.V. is just simply amazing and I would like to see it in person.

I do not have any concerns about any topics we will be talking about in class.

  1. Hi John,

This is a nicely-written Introduction. You certainly have a wide array of sport interests. I think you are not the only one who is into bowling, although I cannot remember who else wrote about that. My brother bowled a 300 game in a tournament when he was 17 so I can appreciate what goes into that. I have never heard of Webber International. Is that related to the bowler? I can also appreciate the two athletes that you mentioned wanting to see. I was sorry to not get to see Gabby's performance since I was in England at the time and I was either at events or watching British athletes who they featured on the BBC.

I look forward to reading more of your entries. Nice job.

    Dr. Spencer
