Introduction: Tyler Kieffer

My name is Tyler Kieffer, and I am originally from Waterloo, Iowa. To give you a better understanding of where I'm from, I live close to the campus of The University of Northern Iowa in nearby Cedar Falls, Iowa. The reason that I have come to Bowling Green is to pursue a degree in Sport Management, and would have better luck finding a school and job compared to back in Iowa.
During high school I have competed in five different sports over my four years. I played basketball for one year, and wrestled another year in high school. I've also competed in track for two years as a thrower for my high school. The sports I played for all four years were football, and baseball. In my first year of football I tore my ACL and was out until baseball season began for us. Here at BGSU, I continue to play on the intramural level. There I have played: football, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, and handball.
The female athlete that I would pay to see is Serena Williams. What she has done for the game of tennis on the women’s side is nothing short of spectacular. Her combination of finesse and power that she possesses has revolutionized women’s tennis and made it more mainstream and more appealing to fans than previous generations before here.
The male athlete that I would pay to see is Michael Jordan in his prime. The way that he played the game made people want to be him. The way that he floated through the air was nothing short of spectacular. Another reason to pay to see him was the fact that he cared about both ends of the court equally. With that passion he has won both scoring titles and Defensive Player of the Year during his career. His impact on the game is still being felt and has helped the game of basketball go global during his career.
I have no problems discussing any topic in class, and look forward to the differing viewpoints that may be presented in class.

  1. Hi Tyler,

This is a very good introduction and I enjoyed reading about your background. I can certainly understand why you like the athletes you named. I definitely agree with you that Michael Jordan was largely responsible for basketball going global. Many people point to the 1992 Dream Team as playing a big factor in the globalization of the NBA. We will be talking about that in class when we get to the article on "The Jordan effect."

As for Serena, she already won her first tournament of the year at the Brisbane International Tournament in Australia and she is about to play in the Australian Open, starting this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. It would not surprise me if she won that too. Several commentators have suggested that she may be the greatest female player ever!

This is a good start for your entry and I look forward to reading more of your blog posts.

  2. Tyler,

I think it is great that the prestige of our program reached you out in Iowa! I definitely agree with you that Michael Jordan would be amazing to see. What is so fascinating about him is that he changed the way the game was played, while bringing his own attitude and confidence.

The entire story of MJ is spectacular, with his sponsorship and promotional deals. I also agree with you in the fact that most NBA stars seem to forget how to play defense and this was a very admirable trait of Jordan
