This journal
article had a lot of information about females watching the Super Bowl. The in-depth look and break down of
what percentages of people watch things like the pre-game show, commercials,
the half time performance and just the whole game itself. Not only this, but also the breakdown
of age, marital status, ethnicity and their household income lead to some
interesting numbers. As stated in
the journal article, about 45% of females watched the 2007 Super Bowl. I was surprised by how high this number
was so I looked further into the percentages and statistics to see if I could
explain why.
The total sample
of viewers in the 25-34 and 35-44 age ranges each had the largest percentage of
25.3% each. This accounts for
50.6% of all viewers that watched the game between the ages of 25 and 44. Females also had the largest percentage
in the 35-44 age range with 40.0%. Along with this, the largest percentage of
the total sample of marital status was married couples with 54.5% and females
having 65.2% that were married.
Putting these
statistics together and based my thoughts, wouldn’t it seem unsurprising that
females accounted for 45% of all viewers that watched the Super Bowl? If a male
is watching the game and is married then the female is going to be right next
to her husband watching the game with him and possibly his friends. If the
husband brings his friends to watch the game then they will bring their wives
along with them making the ratio of males and females equal. In my opinion, the 25-34 and 35-44 age
ranges are the most popular ages that couples are married since and the
percentages show since they have the largest percentages. I do not think the education level or
household income has a significant part in it, but it is still interesting to
look at.
