Every year the Super Bowl is watched around the world and especially in the United States. All around America, the Super Bowl is seen as the day the men neglect their women all day long for the activities that occurs during before and after the game. The day of the Super Bowl is seen as a man’s day. However, Kanner disagrees with this scenario. While reading Real Women Watch Football, one of the biggest thing that jumped out at me was the statistic that, “Women control 2/3 of the disposable income and influence 88% of all purchases” (Kanner, 2004). Since this is true many Super Bowl ads are targeted towards women and their needs. Also another way you can tell that the day of the Super Bowl is geared for women is by the Super Bowl halftime show. This year especially, Beyonce was the performer. The show had dramatic lighting and a Destiny’s Child reunion especially. Ukmix.org an album chart website stated that Destiny’s Child has sold 36,200,000 albums and counting since the group released. Most of the sales came from women. So, this is another way you can tell that the Super Bowl isn’t just for men. The article also said 93 million people watched the Super Bowl in 2007 and 45% of the viewers were female. So as you can see, don’t believe the hype when people say watching the Super Bowl is a man thing. That statement is definitely false, because of the high numbers of women watching around the world, the commercials targeted toward women controlling incomes, and Super Bowl half time shows geared toward female audiences.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree that the Super Bowl is not only targeted at males but many other things that go on during the Super Bowl is targeted at the females. I know in our household that my mom would handle all the money and go shopping for everything so I think that targeting females during the Super Bowl whether it is with the commercials or the half time show or anything else is a good idea for the companies to market to them.
