Budget Allocation- Jeff Kravetz, Wes Hall, Tyler Kieffer

First we found out how much expense we had that was non-negotiable. That total turned out to be $151,350, with the budget allocated to us of $120,000 and a donation of $20,000, we were short of meeting the budget by $11,350. In order to make up that difference we had four teams fundraise to help support the athletics at the school. The teams we choose for fundraising were: Women’s Track, Football, Swimming, and the Men’s Track team. With $60 coming in per person we were able to raise $15,300 for the athletics department and minus are current deficit of $11,350 we are left with $3,950 to spend on athletics budget. We also decided to institute a pay to play requirement for all of the athletes at $25 per person per sport. With 454 athletes at the school we were able to raise $11,475 and added to the previous $3,950, the school would have $15,425 to allocate to the teams. As athletic directors we decided that it was best to get as much new equipment as possible.
The items we bought were as followed:
New Men’s and Women’s Shot Put ($200 per team) ($400 total)
New Men’s and Women’s Discus ($300 per team) ($600 total)
New Hockey Jerseys ($2,000)
New Volleyball Jerseys ($1,200)
New Football Helmets ($6,000)
New Men’s and Women’s Soccer Jerseys ($1,200 per team) ($2,400 total)
New Swimsuits ($1,800)
The total costs from that is: $14,400, which would leave us a surplus of $1,025. We have chosen to do it this way to try to please everyone and help improve the other areas of our athletics program. In high school it’s not about making money as it is putting a good product on the field. Also some of the expenses were too steep for us to justify paying for that and not buying equipment for other sports. Going out of state for training or tournaments are nice but are not needed as are the other costs we have decided to pay for this year. Possibly the following year would not be as bad due to much of the equipment being relatively new and can focus on other areas of the athletic department.

  1. Your group did a good job of articulating how you would allocate the money and what your rationale was.

    Good job!
