Joshua Kovacs: Real Women Watch Football
This article was very interesting even from the start when it said that 93 million people watched the Super Bowl in 2007 and 45% of the viewers were female. This number is staggering because I am used to looking at football as a time to watch the game with your buddies and mostly a male dominated sport. Another number that stood out to me was that the NFL only holds 31 different markets but has a game that is the most watched event in television. The NFL has been developing campaigns to target the female demographic and even has a "football 101" which explains the game of football for novice viewers. I thought it was interesting that the article said women control about 2/3 of the disposable income in the United States and have a say so in about 88% of purchases. These numbers would definitely stand out to someone who is in the business of sales and if approximately 47 million women are watching the Super Bowl then who wouldn't want to focus on them as a target audience. The Super Bowl makes a perfect stage and starting point for any female oriented product.
