Conclusion Blog- Tad Margolies

I learned about a lot of topics in this class.  Most of the topics I have never thought about in a sport manner.  This is why I found the class so interesting.  The main thing I learned in this class was that being a boy or girl in sport has many different meanings and connotations.  This goes along with transgender and homosexality.  It was very interesting to learn about all the obstacles surrounding transgender and transsexual athletes.  They face many challenges because society does not accept them, and it is tough to find a spot for them in sport.  I also found the homosexuality in sport a very interesting topic.  I never knew that there was no "out" athlete in major professional sports today.  I found learning about these various topics to be useful as an avid sports fan and a sport management major.  As a fan, this information is useful because I now understand what many of the athletes have to go through.  As a sport management major, the information learned in this class will help me with any job I get.  If I become an athletic director, I will know about the various rules of Title IX and how to be fair to both sexes.  If i work in the front office.  I will now know how to deal with issues in the clubhouse involving sexuality and oher issues.

I have never kept a blog or journal before in my life.  I found it to be a good way for me to express my thoughts and think about things differently.  This blog allowed me to critically think about various sport and gender issues.  I firmly believe that keeping a blog is a stronger learning tool than regular homework assignments from a book. The blog allowed me to put my opinions and thoughts into my own words, rather than following the opinions of a certain author.  I also liked how I could see what my classmates were writing.  This allowed me to see my peers opinions and how they differed or were similar to mine.  The comments were also very benficial for the learning process.  being able to debate these topics helps for better understanding between both sides of every opinion.

Overall this was one of my favorite classes at BGSU.  I especially liked it because it was discussion based.  I do not like when professors lecture straight from a textbook as it is very boring and hard to learn.  When encouraged to speak my opinion, my learning was enriched.
